From a basement in 2014 to today: a new chapter for A-Hjort
Some companies start in an office. A-Hjort started in a basement, with a pram in the hallway, a laptop on the table and a dream that would not let go.
A dream born on maternity leave
Let us go back to 2014. Anne Hjort was on maternity leave and had been carrying an idea with her for a long time: it should be easy to find jewellery from several Danish designers gathered in one place. Starting her own business did not feel far-fetched – her husband, Anders, already ran a company of his own.
So they got to work, each with their own task. Anne reached out to the Danish jewellery designers who wanted to be sold online. Anders built the webshop from scratch. And from there, things moved quickly.
The basement that became a shop
The couple’s basement turned into a small shop with a showroom and room for the daily operations. A sign by the driveway helped customers find their way. Anne took care of everything herself: buying, personal service, packing the orders and taking the pictures for the webshop and social media.
Customers could tell that thought had gone into every single parcel. That personal approach, and Anne’s eye for contemporary jewellery, became the foundation of everything A-Hjort is today.
From hobby project to livelihood
What was meant to be a hobby project grew quickly. Within a few years A-Hjort was sending jewellery to customers abroad, and the basement became too small for the ambitions. A-Hjort had become a real company.
2020: new hands on the helm
By 2020 A-Hjort had outgrown itself, and Anne chose to pass her labour of love on to Mikkel while she stepped to the sidelines. Since then, Mikkel has carried A-Hjort forward in the spirit it was created in: fashionable jewellery, attentive customer service and fast delivery.
Thank you, Mikkel
After six years, Mikkel is now stepping down as CEO. We would like to say a big thank you for his commitment and for the many years in which he looked after A-Hjort and helped the company grow.
“It has been a privilege to look after what Anne and Anders built. I have always wanted to preserve what makes A-Hjort unique, and I know the company is now in the very best hands.”
Coming full circle
The new CEO is someone who has been there from day one. Anders, who built the very first webshop in the basement back in 2014, is now taking the helm.
“I have followed A-Hjort ever since the very first order was packed in our basement. Leading what we started together means an enormous amount to me. My job is to preserve what makes A-Hjort special, and at the same time take the company on into the future.”
What is not changing
Even with a new name in the CEO’s chair, the most important things stay the same. At A-Hjort you will still find jewellery from Danish designers gathered in one place, a customer service team that takes the time to help you, and fast delivery.
Anne’s words from the very beginning still hold true:
“At A-Hjort, everyone should be able to find and create their own personal style, regardless of what style they prefer. We focus particularly on providing the best customer service on the market.”
